The incident on Belgrave
Middleway near Edgbaston at about 01:00 GMT, was described by West Midlands
Police as "very difficult and upsetting".
A spokeswoman for the force
said there had been a "number of fatalities".
The Hazardous Area Response
Team of West Midlands Ambulance Service described it as a "significant
incident".
The stretch of Belgrave
Middleway is closed from Islington Row to Bristol Street.
West Midlands Police tweeted
first responders were "doing their very best" and appealed for any
witnesses to contact them.
