Scary moment BBC crew discover a dragon lurking in their hotel bathroom

After a long day filming giant lizards in Indonesia, BBC cameraman Mark MacEwen was likely hoping for a little downtime in his hotel room.

But waiting for him when he returned was a huge Komodo dragon, which was chilling in his bathroom.

The massive beasts have been known to attack humans when cornered, leaving the crew with the difficult challenge of safely removing their unwanted visitor.
Mr MacEwen was on the Indonesian island filming for the new Sir David Attenborough nature documentary series, Planet Earth II.

After spotting the lizard in his bathroom, he said: 'We've just got back to where we store our kit and there is a dragon in the bathroom.

'It's not quite what you expect to find when you go to the toilet.'
Poking a camera through a crack in the bathroom door, the crew filmed the dragon lurking next to the toilet.

'The next problem we've got is how to get a dragon out of a toilet. He looks quite comfortable,' Mr MacEwen says.
The crew eventually coaxed the lizard out with a hunk of rotten meat tied to a stick, despite the dragon's best efforts to hide under a bed.

But, not wanting to exit without leaving a 'thank you' present, the huge lizard defecated on the floor on its way out, much to the crew's disgust.
Komodo dragons can reach up to three metres in length and weight about 90kg when they are fully grown.
They have been known to attack humans when trapped but are otherwise docile and tend to flee when approached by people.
The lizards mainly eat birds but also prey on pigs and goats.
The first episode of Planet Earth II airs on the BBC on Sunday.
