Despite denial by the government of Osun State on Wednesday
that no son of the Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola was arrested at
Lagos Airport for money laundering, a source that refused to be quoted told
Vanguard that the governor’s son,
identified as Kabiru was actually arrested.
The source who begged not to be named, said Kabiru was on
his way to United Arab Emirate with over N178million. He also disclosed that
“Kabiru was arrested on Tuesday
afternoon at the departure wing of the Muritala Muhammed International
Airport , Lagos, with the sum of N178 million Naira in his luggage that was not
declared by him”.
On Wednesday, Osun state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola denied the involvement of any of his
children in money laundering. The clarification was made by Mr Semiu Okanlawon
Director,Bureau of Communication & Strategy, Office of the Governor.
Okanlawon’s statement reads in part, “It has become
pertinent to inform Nigerians and others generally that there is no iota of
truth in the story being peddled around by some misguided elements claiming
that a son of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Kabir Aregbesola was arrested
at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos today Tuesday May 12,
2015 with a huge sum of money in foreign currencies.
“We have discovered the the authors of the wicked and
malicious lie are doggedly pursuing their agenda by engaging in an aggressive
push for the falsehood to reach a larger population especially using the social
media.
“The younger Aregbesola neither traveled anywhere nor had
any encounter with any security personnel today.”
