Kanye West went from being a college dropout Yeezus to Dr.
West. Kanye West on Monday received his honorary doctorate from the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago.
SAIC, one of the most prestigious art schools in the US,
said the honorary doctorate is given to "influential individuals" who
earned "this distinguished award through their work''.
Kanye's
selection stirred up controversy amongst
some students and alum, but SAIC President Walter E. Massey and Dean of Faculty
Lisa Wainwright firmly defended the decision to award Kanye with a degree in an
interview saying:
"The guy is smart, the music is beautiful, it's
complicated, it's post-modern, it's hip, it's awakening," said Wainwright,
"I couldn't be happier."
