‘’Our
destiny remains in our hand, we only need to take delivery of what belong to
us’’-Bishop David
oyedepo.
Everything
works together for good and for those who truly believes in the will of the highest
God. For Ayodele fayose, the governor elect, it was a day of reckoning when the
twisted hand of faith drop dawn to pave way for another regime with different party
affiliation in the state of Ekiti that is having him as their change agent,
Changing the entire baton of leadership through the will of destiny that can be
attributable to ray of hope in the minds of the people and the act of God that
must prevail above all things.
’’Indeed,
our destiny remains in our hand; we only need to exercise it in other for us to
take delivery of what is in provision for us’’. To the electorates, it was time
for the change they truly needs.
How, many
would ask, it was indeed their desires for change that gave them the zeal to
exercise their franchise and vote for who they truly needs.
From the
look of things, the people truly demand change in governance not minding whose
ox is gored, since what they want is of importance , paramount and is
determined through their ability to choose, having their franchise, and that
they truly know how to go about it with their sovereignty and if indeed, that
happened to be the reasons for having different submission from various
quarters matching against the verdict of others, one is tempted to believe what
the governor elect said ‘’that the opposition are people that is good in making
noise ‘’only, on the pages of newspapers. ‘planning and strategizing are not
something that is being done in the open, more especially when it involves
individuals that are in competition, it’s like having the concentration of
market base that has something to do with buying and selling ideologies, the
people are the end products, that must have to choose.
In that wise,
we should expect that what must be their choice must be of interest to them,
part of which must be that the candidate is sellable to them, and be popular.
Above all, must truly understand the needs and desires of the people.
The simple
analogy here is truly that the Ekiti people are people of sophistication; they
are individuals who know what governance is all about, the rudiments and the
understanding of what is quality assurance that is devoid of quality control.
Expensive
mistakes are made and usually the leaders are those who give birth to such
some-time, and are such, majority would have to bear the consequence and live
with it.
Take for
example, when you bring in someone that is not popular in the midst of his
people and the opposition had otherwise, what magic can such a party do to win
election in an era where the people are more enlightened, and where our pattern
of voting has changed drastically and equally making it more and more difficult
for anybody to manipulate—today we see obvious mistakes as result of being
selfish and self-centred in most political party.. Just because of personal
interest.
As an
indigene, did some samplings through focus group discussion in the state of Ekiti,
and the outcome without any prejudice is that the people of Ekiti are tired of
‘’baba so pe’’ To further buttress my points, Some analyst even gave their
verdict as having more of poverty on ground, some say its defile all logic and
theory as to what made the people vote for alternative. Some even went as far
as saying our people are having more recourse to ‘’stomach infrastructure’’
other than the effort of the present governor in revamping physical
infrastructure generally in the state.
Accordingly,
we should not forget that this governor elect has succeeded in defeating two
incumbent governors, at first was when he contested against the incumbent in
2003, was at my local government in Ijero, and his methodical approaches were
that he brought water tanks to various location and ensure everybody had access
to drinkable water, shared things of livelihood that can sustain the people
like sewing machines, tricycles and other form of putting food on the table of
the low income earners which if classified, are indeed the needs of the
majority that is termed as priority to them that earn him his personality as
individual.
In that,
even if he contested under any platform, he will always come out victorious
when compared to the elites. To me, what is more important is that the people
are willing to get what they can take away instantly as means of life
sustenance given the higher proportion of poverty index the country is battling
with, instead of what the entire state stands to gain. Indeed, building human
capital development.
From the
views of all said, one wonder if those seeing it from those perspective were
able to discover for the present governor before now, the need to mould his
policy toward such process in the past in other for his people to match towards
that line, and be able to use as testimony during his campaign of what he was
able to achieve in terms of empowerment of various form which indeed would have
been a game changer for him in the past compare to what the governor elect has
done as well for the people individually and collectively in the collation,
collection and distribution of wealth to evaluate from, since they the people
of Ekiti are the one to determine their coming back, and as well, determine who
they want.
For
instance, when the governor elect was bold with his word and stand mien in
Ikere Ekiti during the electioneering campaign that he had once proposed
university education in that settlement and that the present government went
ahead and relocate it to another location, and went further, that if
re-elected, he was going to replace it back, the people of Ikere held that and
indeed formed part of what influence their decision among other things.
Then, their
direction of vote cannot be wrong as insinuated from various quarters. Indeed,
there are many factors that truly worked for the governor elect, one of which
was issue based campaigning, and the legacies he left behind which truly made
him stand tall among his peers to raise shoulder high above others as goods,
worth given out to sell, and was able to achieve results. Other ideology is
indeed his understanding of the social stratification with the low income
earners essentially within their environment.
The
understandings and believe of the governor elect on local content policy and
indeed, the will of destiny that is above human comprehension. First, let me analyse
this sharp contrast when it comes to social stratification that is embedded. In
quoting from Fayose’s word when he said’’ the people of Ekiti are my people,
they are part of me and I am part of them, anytime there is any social
interaction such as naming ceremony and other related programmes that involves
them, I personally make out time to attend personally’’.
There is one
thing about human behavioural science that has something to do with
relationships variables when it comes to social stratification that transcend
beyond human imagination sometimes and the way they affect us. When sampled
with different variables, it’s usually turns out yielding different results.
For instance, if you have committed relationship with any woman, that may blossom
into marriage forever. Even if not, those moments and memories are not
something that could depart so easily from both parties. Indeed, this comes as
a result of sharing things in common, seeing themselves often, and always on
time when both party is in need of whatever form of assistance.
Those little
things are of importance and usually, they lingers in memory and could draw
sympathy of whatever kind through the affection showed in time of need as a
result. Could this then be said that the ideology of this nature defies all
logic or theory’’ the truth is that the environment remains our surroundings
which simply explains that we are where we live’’ especially when we are part
of those sustaining the inhabitants, the environment has a way of given back.
The
inhabitants are no angels, they have had enough experiences of both the
governor elect and this present governor, and they understand what both has for
them and not what some insinuate as to be ‘’stomach infrastructure’’ with which
this writer take an exception, hence the ultimate decision lies in the hand of
the electorate to choose.
If the present governor has the best policies
ever and the people believes his style of governance is not good for them, and
were able to use their franchise and exercise it in whichever direction, it
should be commendable.
To me, what
matter most is their right of sovereignty bestowed on them through their
franchise, and did not came as surprise when the incumbent governor was quoted
as saying’’ if truly this is the will of the people, he stands in difference to
it’’ Was watching and following both rallies, looking at the progress of
things, one can be tempted to have a tentative conclusion as to where the
pendulum would swing.
