An amateur football team made up of deaf players want their relegation to be called off – because their players couldn’t hear the referee’s whistle during matches.
Birmingham
Deaf FC lost 25 of their 26 fixtures during their local league, conceding 164
goals in the process, meaning they finished bottom of division five.
The team,
which was formed in 1921 and is made up of nearly all deaf players, have been
relegated two divisions as punishment, but they claim it’s all the ref’s fault…
‘The
referees are supposed to wave flags while, at the same time, blowing a
whistle,’ said club official Guy Whieldon.
‘Most
referees forget to wave or simply don’t want to use a flag. The ref would blow
for a stoppage and they would continue to play.’
BDFC were
given a nine-point deduction earlier this year for failing to turn up to
matches as a protest, and become the first team ever in the division to end on
minus points.
The club say
they will consider dropping out all together.
