At every historical junction in
Nigeria leadership, every president and head of states had been identified with
their respective peculiarity in terms of administrative system. From 1960 till
date, there have been various styles of leadership perception as defined by the
citizen. Alhaj Abubarkai Tafawa Balewa was criticised for his intention to
consolidate the country under the northern dracony, Major Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi
was accused of centralising the federal system and upholding the supreme
military council through the appointment of administrators in the regions, Gen.
Yakubu Gowon was accused of “staying too long” in power, Gen Murtala was a
disciplinarian and the least goes on..
Fast-tracking into this republic
and specifically the present administration of the very first president from
the south, it can be identified that it is this administration that has sacked
or suspended appointed executives more than any administration since Nigeria’s’
existence.
Comrade Eze Prince stated that it
would take more than an academic research to make a head count of the list of
sacked officials during President Jonathan’s administration since 2010.
2010- 72 Officials including EFCC
chairman, all the Service Chiefs, IGP, 20 Ministers, his security adviser and
SSS Senior Staffs
2011- 23 Officials including Defence
Minister, Justice Salami, National Security Adviser and Nine other Ministers
2012- 15 Officials including NCC Commissioner
and NNPC Group Managing Director
2013- 22 Officials including nine
ministers.
In the early period of 2014
however, Mr President has sacked four Ministers, all the service Chiefs and the
CBN Governor, Mallan Sanusi Lamido Sanusi not mentioning those who were forced
to resign.
The sporadic pen-killing style of
our dear president has however attracts the consciousness of law abiding, tax
paying and subjective Nigerian citizens who only have become a peripheral parcel
of all the events. The Convener of Youthful Women for Change (YWC) Mrs Ayokunle
Deborah has noted that none of the forceful relief of appointment done by the
President has been able to put food on the table of Nigerian youths. She cited
the instance of the resignation of the PDP head as he was again appointed to
head the Railway Corporation. Does that mean the position has been vacant all
the while? What else would a 79 year old want to offer the country that a
younger Nigerian cant? How can the president assure mass employment at the beginning
of every year and would not record a landslide fall in unemployment rate at the
end of that fiscal year, rather would only celebrate the ones that had been
sent home? What were the ethical credentials that qualify them into the office
in the first place? Nigerians want to know.
Mallam Sanusi was at the TEDex
seminar in Maitama December last year and he emotionally analysed certain
negativities that the present administration is comprised of. He openly
mentioned certain offices and persons who stood as opposing giants to the
growth and development of this country and challenged the youths to take the
destiny into their hands. He probably must have perceived that he might be
removed before his time.
We are just two months into the
year, the acclaimed national conference in still in the tube, parties are still
brooding and militancy still looms, the masses still groan, rent is still high,
jobs are still illusive and our hope is still high. Will this sacking jamboree
address out many problems? Only time will teach us what is truth and what is
legendary.
