Sanusi Ado
Bayero, the first son of the late emir of Kano, has been named as the new emir
to replace his father, who ruled for 51years.
Born on
April 1, 1956, Bayero is a lawyer and an accomplished professional who attended
Rano boarding Primary school, Kano between 1963 and 1969 where he had his First
School Leaving Certificate. From there he proceded to Rumfa College, Kano from
1969 to 1973 and later went to Government College, Birin Kudu from 1973 to1975
where he had his Ordinary Levels Certificate (O’ Level Certificate).
After
writing French in his WAEC Exams, Bayero proceded to do a Diploma in French
from Ecole International De La Langue Francoise, Paris from 1976 to 1979. He
speaks French fluently now.
He furthered
his educational Career in College of Arts & science to obtain A’ level
Certificate between 1975 and 1976. Then between 1977 to 1979, he bagged a
Diploma in Law from the Institute of Administration Kongo, Zaria before going
to Ahmadu Bello University for his Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) which he did
between 1979 and 1983. In 1984 he was called to bar.
Before being
announced as emir, he was Principal Partner of Lamido & Co, a law firm
which he established in 1986.
His work
career actually started as a lecturer in the Kaduna State Polytechnic where he
did his national youth service between 1984 and 1985.
He became
State counsel in the Ministry of Justice Gidan Murtala Kano in 1985 and served
there for two years from where he moved to become the Legal Adviser/ Company
Secretary of Kano State Investment and Properties between 1988 and 1989.
He served as
a Director General, Kano State Council of Chiefs (1991 to 1993), Director
General Special Duties in the Kano State Government (1993 to 1996), and
District Head /Council member Kano Emirate Council.
Between 1996
to 2000, Bayero was the permanent Secretary Kano State Ministry of Information,
Youths and Culture.
He became
the Chairman of City Walls & Gates in 1995, a position he still occupies,
in addition to serving as a Director of Briscoe Nigeria Limited and
International Energy Insurance Plc.
