PMAN President Pretty Okafor Exonerated by Police, Vows Legal Action Against Detractors

Lagos, Nigeria — June 11, 2025

In a powerful and revealing press conference held at the PMAN National Secretariat in Lekki, Lagos, the National President of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Pretty Okafor, publicly declared his full exoneration from all allegations leveled against him by members of a rival faction within the union.

Okafor, speaking to members of the press and stakeholders in the creative industry, cited the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Nigeria Police Investigation Report, which he said unequivocally cleared him and his leadership of any wrongdoing, including allegations of financial misconduct, forgery, or constitutional breaches.

“There was never any financial misconduct. There was never any forgery. There was no breach of the PMAN Constitution on my part. Now, the truth has finally prevailed!” he stated emphatically.

Alleged Coup Attempt Within PMAN

The PMAN President described what he called a “coordinated campaign to hijack the union” during his official trip to Spain, accusing some members of the former National Working Committee (NWC) of orchestrating an unlawful suspension in contravention of the PMAN Constitution. According to Okafor, the proper disciplinary procedures outlined in Article 13(C)(i)–(iv) were ignored, and false criminal allegations were made against him.

He alleged that the campaign was driven not by a desire to reform the union but by a plot to seize control of PMAN’s growing assets.

NEC Response and Disciplinary Actions

In response, the National Executive Council (NEC) acted swiftly to nullify the suspensions and restore constitutional order. Key figures implicated in the attempted takeover — including Boniface Itodo and Faga Bem-Paul — were dismissed and paid off accordingly. Others, such as Sunny Neji, Zakky Azzay, and Michael Stephen (popularly known as Ruggedman), were said to have vacated their positions by their own actions through association with the disputed “Lobby D PMAN” group.

These positions, Okafor noted, would be filled in an acting capacity pending a Special National Delegates Conference.

Forgery Scandal and Legal Fallout

The PMAN President further revealed a disturbing attempt to paralyze his personal finances through a forged Post No Debit (PND) order allegedly initiated by Inspector Caleb Samuel and a clerk of the Upper Sharia Court III, Minna. The clerk, identified as Hemmed Alfa, has since been dismissed and handed over to law enforcement, while Inspector Samuel is currently under investigation.

Okafor also denounced a “fraudulent consent judgment” in Suit No. NICN/LA/360/2024, describing it as a legal nullity. He claimed the case was engineered by suspended members of PMAN in collaboration with George Dureke and Fruitful Mekwunye, who allegedly sued themselves to manipulate judicial outcomes without notifying or involving the legitimate PMAN leadership.

PMAN Secretariat Break-In

Further raising the alarm, Okafor accused the same individuals of criminal trespass, citing break-ins at the PMAN Secretariat on March 1 and 3, 2025. Reports of the incident have been filed with the IGP Monitoring Unit, and arrests are said to have already been made.

Developer Implicated in Alleged Fraud

A major revelation from the press briefing centered on Olufemi Olumeyan of Olusco Heritage and Investment Limited — the original developer of PMAN’s ambitious Monaco Project. Okafor alleged that Olumeyan not only entered into unauthorized contracts but also received ₦350 million from third parties without fulfilling PMAN’s entitlement.

Among the most serious allegations, Okafor claimed that Olusco’s financial dealings may be linked to money laundering and illicit financial flows. Forensic investigation by the Nigeria Police reportedly confirms that the development contract was signed by Olusco, contradicting the developer’s public denials.

Safeguarding PMAN’s Future

To protect the union’s growing assets, the NEC resolved in a March 16, 2025 meeting to establish an Asset Management Company, tasked with managing and securing PMAN’s investments, including the PMAN FM Radio and the Monaco Project.

“This is not just about PMAN. This is about the soul of our industry – about constitutional order, justice, and the power of truth,” Okafor asserted.

Moving Forward

Okafor concluded the press conference by reaffirming his commitment to rebuilding the union and holding all impostors and saboteurs accountable through both civil and criminal legal channels.

“We are standing strong. We will rebuild. And we will pursue all legal avenues to bring every sponsor of this evil agenda to justice.”

The Certified True Copy of the Police Investigation Report was made publicly available during the conference.
