The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode seems to be on
a sacking sprey. He is showing signs that he isn’t pleased with the cabinet Fashola
left behind.
Ambode sacked heads and boards of 82 agencies and
departments of the Lagos State government on Monday, June 15, 2015.
The sack took effect immediately, and the governor has constituted new heads that will implement his
agenda in the state.
According t NewsIntel, Ambode approved the sack at the
conclusion of a two-week assessment of all agencies and departments. NewsIntels
gathered that the mass sack was not unexpected with the change of baton at the
top, even as some of the heads of agencies may be reappointed to serve in the
new cabinet.
Among the affected parastatals are the Lagos State Residents
Registration Agency; Lagos State Sports Endowment Fund; Lagos State Motor
Vehicle Administration Agency; Lagos State Traffic Management Authority;
Christian/ Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board; Lagos State Fire Services;Lagos State
University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH); Primary Health Care Board; Lagos State
Examination Board; Lagos State Scholarship Board; IBILE Holdings; Lagos State
Health Service Commission; Lagos State Emergency Management Authority; Lagos
State Electricity Board; and Public Works Corporation.
The sad thing is many of the sacked officials didnt know
they were fired until press time yesterday. The Chief Press Secretary to the
governor, HabibAruna, disclosed that the Civil Service Commission, Judicial
Service Commission and the State Independent Electoral Commission were
exempted.
Ambode, in a statement, commended the modest contributions
of the members of the dissolved boards, just as he wished them well in their
future endeavours. Meanwhile, the governor has approved the appointment of Mrs.
Abimbola Shukrat Umar as the new accountant general of the state.
Umar, prior to her new appointment, was the Permanent
Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Her appointment, according
