The Kogi State Commissioner of
Police, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, on Tuesday said the command had arrested
three suspected kidnappers and recovered N2,533,500 from them.
Other items recovered from the
suspects, according to the CP, are television set, generator set, CD player,
clothes and standing fan.
Parading the suspects, Muhammed
Mayaki, Abdulaziz Sani and Usman Abdulrahaman in Lokoja, the state capital, he
stated that the suspects allegedly kidnapped a Chinese, working with Ceramic
industry in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the state
The police boss alleged that
the suspects, alongside one now at large, identified simply as Nda on April 27,
kidnapped the Chinese and collected N5m ransom from the company and later
released the victim.
He said the gang leader, who is
still at large, only submitted N3.5m to his gang for sharing after he had
collected the N5m ransom. Read more
Ogunjemilusi also paraded Amao
Gbadebo for allegedly threatening to kidnap a top official of ECWA hospital,
Egbe in Yagba East LGA.
According to the CP, the
suspect also collected ransom from them and fled to Osun State, where the
police later arrested him.
He said, “On Saturday, the
police also foiled an attempt by some hoodlums to again kidnap another Chinese
national working with Dangote Cement Company factory at Obajana. One of the
officers, who was seriously injured in the process, is receiving treatment at
the hospital.
“The reason for the increase
(in kidnappings) was that the families of the victims do not want the police to
be fully involved in the negotiation with the kidnappers because they are
afraid that the kidnapper would kill the victims. We are calling on them to
always allow security agencies to take control of the situation.”
Meanwhile, the Kogi State
chapter of the Nigeria Union Journalists has warned fake press corps, parading
themselves as journalists to desist from such or face the full wrath of the
law.
The union, in a statement by
the state council’s secretary, Alhaji Momoh Jimoh, also advised the general public,
especially the people of Igala land, to stop patronising impostors.
He stated that the NUJ does not
have any press corps or chapel in the eastern part of the state.
