Ibrahim
Tijani,a 29-year-oid bricklayer who
allegedly killed his neighbour, Bashorun Okanla, with a cutlass, was on Monday
in Lagos remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons. The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, of
an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court gave the order at the arraignment of the
accused.
Mrs Tanimola
said that, the accused should be remanded pending legal advice from the State
Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The accused, who resides at Okun in
Ajah area of Lagos, is facing a charge of murder. The prosecutor, ASP Elizabeth
Ekuma, had earlier told the court that the deceased had complained about the
fumes coming out of his ‘accused’ generator which was filtering into his
apartment.
“An argument
ensued between the duo which led Tijani to enter his room, got a cutlass which
he used to attack the deceased on one of his legs and the left hand”, she said.
She further
told the court that Okanla died at an undisclosed hospital as a result of the
injuries he sustained from the attack. Ekuma said the offence was committed on
Feb. 8, at about 2.30 p.m. at Okun Ajah, Lagos. The prosecutor said that the
offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The
magistrate adjourned the case till April 15, pending advice from DPP.
