An overpass in Brazil that was part of the World Cup infrastructure plan has collapsed on to vehicles below. (thank God sey eagles don come home)
The overpass in host city Belo Horizonte collapsed this afternoon at around 3pm.
Local news media quoted fire-fighters on the scene as saying at least two people had died and another 19 were injured.
Live TV images showed what appeared to be a school bus and other vehicles trapped under the rubble.
A witness said: ‘It was a terrifying thing. I still can’t believe what I saw. I was standing nearby talking with my duaghter. Suddenly the viaduct crashed down all in one go, it happened in an instant.’
It was not immediately clear if people are trapped inside those vehicles.
Edgard Estevo, chief firefighter at the scene, said his team were unable to search for victims until the bridge was secured.
He told local media in Brazil: ‘We need to make the area stable so we can securely go in there and find out what the situation is underneath.’ See more pics after cut
