Premiership highest goal scorer Luiz Suarez and his Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho  threw their support behind Dani Alves’ fight against racism by joining a host of stars to tweet a picture with a banana.

Barcelona ace Alves delighted the footballing world on Sunday night when he picked up and ate a banana thrown at him by a fan at Villarreal.

Following Barca’s 3-2 victory, his team-mate Neymar posted a picture of himself with a banana, accompanied by the caption ‘we are all monkeys’.

Since then, a host of Premier League stars, including Chelsea’s David Luiz, Oscar and Willian, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Tottenham’s Nacer Chadli and Moussa Dembele have all joined the impromptu social campaign by posting their own pictures with bananas.
