MetroNews- The parents of a British teenager who was reported to have died in South America after
taking hallucinogenic drugs during a tribal ritual have paid tribute to their
son.
Henry Miller, 19, from Bristol, is believed to have taken
Yage, which brings on vivid hallucinations, in a remote rain-forest area of
Colombia with other tourists.
‘In the last 48 hours we received the exceptionally sad
news that our son Henry has died whilst travelling in Colombia,’ his father,
David Miller, said in a statement to the Bristol Post.
‘We understand that he took part in a local tribal ritual
recommended by the hostel that he was staying at.’
He added: ‘Henry was an adventurous person who traveled
extensively.
‘He was polite, popular with a great sense of humor and
was very much loved by his family and his many friends.
‘We hope we can all be given the time and space to come
to terms with what has happened and to grieve for our son and brother.’
Christopher Dearden, who took the drug with Mr Miller,
said while the rest of the group came around from the ‘trip’, Mr Miller did
not.
‘He just got worse and worse. He was lying face down on
the ground making very weird breathing noises,’ he told the Daily Mail.
The teenager’s body was reported to have been dumped by a
dirt road.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: ‘We are aware of
the death of a British national on April 23 in Colombia.
‘We are providing consular assistance to the family at
this very difficult time.’
