Jimi Agbaje's Quest for Guber Race In Lagos Under PDP: How Realistic

Popular Lagos politician and Chief Executive Officer of Jay Kay Pharmacy, Jimi Agbaje has yesterday declared his interest to run for the 2015 governorship race in Lagos state on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Agbaje declared his intention to succeed governor Fashola after his tour of all 57 Local councils in the state.

From my point of view Uncle Jimmy is another intellectual force to be reckoned in Lagos politics and a man who can deliver his mandate if a transparent election is conducted, as his last contest shows that he gets more of his vote as a person not as a party member (even in the primaries) and only open primary will determine who continues from where the  BRF would stop.

I have personally sampled the opinion of a few-cross section of the grass-root and the outcome poses a question of redemption for the incumbent: the Danfo drivers are tired of LASTMA and their excesses: mainland residents claims they pay tax with few or no dividends return: Okada riders wants to get back to highway: NURTW want to expand its horizon: LASU students still cannot stand the inimical, discreet and anti-civil-servant fee ..Lagosians really wants a change.

Can the existing system coin out a change or will they need a new messiah that will tolerate Lagos as it “used to be”?

I think PDP holds a good scorecard this time as it has carefully selected a candidate that seem trusted and reliable, but if we have to consider the peculiarity and uniqueness of Lagos politics, the forces that be seem to hold more water than the opposition (just saying nio)!

The truth is: Democracy means two things
·        What the people say they want.
·        Who count as the people

Who are the beneficiaries of Lagos’ style of politics? How can they reconcile the negotiation to maintain a balance should an opposition wins that election? What happens to the seemingly “egg-laying” structure that had existed since fourth republic?

I see Uncle Jimi as a good choice in a wrong caucus..but you never can say sha.. Sometimes mortal enemies can unite when interest is common..
One thing im sure of is.. Lagosians shall really decide this time.

Eko o ni Baje ooo!!
